New Project: White Long-sleeved Shirt

So I’ve been on a bit of a kick lately this fall and winter of working on making more of my own wardrobe. I have quite a few shirt patterns that I’ve collected, and this Simplicity 1544 is maybe the second or third one I ever made. The original shirt was done well before I had any sense in picking fabrics for apparel, and I selected a very busy wide-back quilting cotton. That one fits well and I did a good job on constructing it (I think), but it is LOUD and feels more like some sort of costume piece to me than a functional, everyday shirt.

The fabric choice for this one is a little more subdued, with black and tan pinstripes fading in and out over an off-white background. I think it still has a lot of interest without being too busy, and it’s a lot lighter than that quilt-backing cotton I had used previously, so it will be interesting to see how it comes out.

We’ll have to wait a little longer though, because Project Quilting Season 15 is starting this Sunday, and I am hoping to participate again after several years’ hiatus. At the moment, I have “my work cut out for me,” with all of the pattern pieces cut out of fabric and interfacing. Hopefully assembly will be nice and quick once I get through this upcoming PQ project.
